Jumping Spider Care

So you just got your new baby home!  Awesome!  So what's next?

Growing Up, Feeding, and Misting

Right now your new jumper is between i5/i7.  It will molt a total of 10 times before it is fully matured.  After the 10th time it will not molt again.  As they age the molting process will take longer.  Pre-molt can take 2-3 weeks, but the actual molt process will take anywhere from 30-45 minutes.  My preference and recommendation is to mist daily to ensure humidity and give your spood a chance to drink water.  Make sure to not put large amounts of water in your enclosure.  Their lungs are at the bottom of their abdomen, which make it very easy for your new jumper to drown.

In the current stage they eat fruit flies every 2-3 days.  Once your Spood is around i6-i7, you can start to introduce mini mealworms into their diet.  Feed your Spood depending upon the abdomen size.

Lighting and Tempuratue

Your Spood should be exposed to natural sunlight only - but NOT direct sunlight.  Direct sunlight can create what is called the "greenhouse" effect which can un-alive your Spood, and we don't want that!  The general rule is, if you're comfortable they are comfortable, so around 64-84 degrees.
